Why This Instrument Exists
Modular Systems
Eurorack operates at audio and control voltages up to ±10V. Standard metering tools calibrated for consumer or pro audio levels are useless here. OSCOPE scales its vertical range to ±10V full scale, making CV envelopes, LFO waveforms, and audio signals visible in their actual voltage context. The phase display lets you verify polarity of patch relationships directly.

Clipping behaviour — soft, hard, asymmetric — is only visible in the time domain at sufficient resolution. The waveform display shows the exact shape of distortion. The FFT analysis reveals harmonic structure: odd-order harmonics from symmetric clipping, even-order from asymmetric. The crest factor readout quantifies dynamic compression caused by gain staging decisions.

Phase correlation between left and right channels determines mono compatibility. A correlation coefficient below zero means the stereo sum will attenuate or cancel. The Lissajous XY display shows the stereo field geometrically — a vertical line is mono, a circle is 90° phase shifted, a diagonal line collapsing to a point is antiphase. These are not abstract concepts; they are directly audible on playback systems without stereo separation.
Educators
Signal behaviour — triggering, spectral content, phase relationships — is not intuitive from description alone. A real-time display running in a browser tab requires no software installation, no hardware beyond a laptop and microphone, and no prior configuration. Students can observe their own voice, an instrument, or a generated tone, and immediately see the connection between time-domain shape and frequency-domain content.
